Reiki Dharma Newsletter Volume 10, June 23, 2003
Dear Friends! It is time for the tenth Reiki Dharma Newsletter.
Spring is changing into summer and is leaving his coat
of light green colors behind. In my garden the squirrels, rabbits and
the occasional stray cat are playing the game of life. A wide variety
of birds keeps me rooted with their songs of celebration. Many of them
are nesting on the property and are growing their young. All the juices
are flowing again...
It has been very interesting to work at home. During
the years I spent in Japan I always worked from an office, and this time
my house has become the temple for everything: Love, work, meditation
and all the inner aspects of the above...
The last few months were very challenging for me in many
ways; a lot of travel on the physical as well as on the mental/emotional
planes took me from one place to another and back again. I visited places
I had no idea existed in New Zealand, Scotland and Germany as well as
those unknown spaces in my heart and mind. On these journeys I had two
lively companions. First and foremost my new partner, Bhakti and with
her came another companion- a new sense of awareness in my work- about
which I want to talk to you today.
The Master Key
When I first came across Reiki a long time ago, I felt that it was something
that could be practiced casually. But the more I work with it, and the
deeper my understanding of inner energy- dynamics goes, the more I realize
that Reiki has to be practiced diligently with great care and awareness.
This awareness is something that we can nurture in our practice as well
as in our day to day lives. Awareness is the master key: it opens all
doors and gives everything you do, think, feel and perceive a totally
different quality. With awareness it does not matter so much what you
do, but how you do it... When one works with awareness, the teaching begins
to have a life of its own and instead of merely passing on technical knowledge,
you enter the world of transmission. The spark jumps from one candle to
another...
The work with a client
When your client first comes to you, it is helpful to get a holistic understanding
of who he or she is. Under normal circumstance we divide everything we
perceive into digestible pieces. We look at someoneÕs head, someoneÕs
legs or someoneÕs shoulders. I would like to suggest to you to look at
the whole person as one- and, at once. In order to do that you have to
learn how to look at someone without judgement. With our judgements we
compartmentalize everything we perceive. This helps us on one hand to
comprehend the world around us, but, on the other, it divides what we
see into pieces that can not be put together again at a later point. Upon
meeting your client, shake his hand and feel his energy. Hold his hand
for a while, and feel. DonÕt evaluate or judge what you feel, just pay
attention. Does he have a strong or a soft hand shake. What about his
fingers? Are they long short or in between. Are they warm or cold, sweaty
or dry? Do they invite you into the client's soul or would they rather
keep you out? Look into your client's eyes. Does he look at you- and how
does he look at you. What do you feel when you look into his eyes. Do
you get tired or do you get stimulated? Do you see his story in his eyes,
or is it all well- hidden in the deep recess of his mind? What is his
voice like? Does he have a deep or a high pitched voice? Does it sound
like metal, wood, fire or water? What do you feel when you are listening
to him. Do you get tired or is easy to be interested in him? What does
he want from you. Ask him about the reason for choosing to come to you,
and ask him about his complaints. Ask him about his medical history, his
family, his work. Give your total energy to your client, be with him one
hundred percent. Listen to what he says without constructing any theory
about his complaint. Forget all about your own ideas and simply listen
as if you were a tree or a blade of grass or the wind that moves them
both...
Looking at a client
In one of the books of the well- known mystic Rudolf Steiner he says about
disease "You must love a disease if you want to be able to heal it." The
same holds true for the work with your clients. You must love them, because
it is love that awakens the client's inherent healing powers. You must
love them because without love for your client "you" and "he" will remain
separate identities. Love knows no judgement, no comparison, no "you "
and "I". When the borders between you and your clients dissolve, healing
happens all by itself...
Working with a client
Forget everything else and look at your client as if he were the most
precious jewel in the world. Actually, there is no "as if" He is the most
precious jewel in the world right now. He is your client and you and him
share precious moments of life, together. Those moments will never return:
they better be well- lived moments! DonÕt hold anything back. The relationship
of practitioner and client is more like a love affair. When you touch
him, touch him with love and intensity. Dissolve the barriers, hold nothing
back and you will see that you can easily enter the inner being of the
client. If you are prepared well, if your heart is overflowing with love,
that merging becomes healing on a very different level. Many times you
do not have to do anything whatsoever. You simply place your hands upon
the client's body- I personally prefer to place them either in the Medulla
Oblongata, or just below the ankles- and then you just are. No movement
of body or mind are required for this. Remain as still as possible, single-
pointed, the way a cat or a dog stay motionless when they are paying attention.
Whenever you need to move, do it slowly and consciously. Even a small
movement may disturb your client who is enveloped in a coat of love so
delicious that it almost hurts. When you move to another position, take
one hand off the client's body at a time.
After the treatment
When the time is up, gently bring your client back to reality. Give him
a few minutes to come back and if he is not able to do so on his own,
give him a hand. Those of you familiar with Dr. Usui's "Hanshin Koketsu-
Ho technique, or Dr. HayashiÕs Ketsueki Kokan Technique (described in
detail in " The Reiki Techniques of Dr. Hayashi") end the treatment with
these techniques. Before you help your client to get up, offer him a glass
of clear water.
Aftercare
As a Reiki practitioner you take certain responsibilities for your clients.
The first and foremost is your availability. As we all know, Reiki treatments
can bring about massive changes in your clientÕs personal lives. As a
practitioner you must be prepared to support your clients on their personal
journey. And what a lovely journey this journey of life is...
I wish you and your clients all the best with whatever
experience that comes your way, may the flowers shower upon you. With
love from the Greek Island,
your Frank Arjava Petter
New Publications
A few days ago I finished my next project, a book on living in the present
moment. It will be published in German this autumn under the title" Glüklichsein- nichts wollen und an allem teilhaben."As always this book will be published by the Windpferd Verlag Publishing
company. As soon as the English edition is available I will let you know.
This book is an intimate account of my inner world, spiced with many practical
techniques for inviting happiness into your life. It has nothing to do
with Reiki and I am very curious where this project will take me. A CD
with Reiki- Meditations in collaboration with MerlinÕs Magic is in the
process as well.
Two new English Reiki- Books
My last two Reiki- titles are finally available in English from Lotus
Press, Wisconsin. Sorry for making you wait so long! "Reiki, Best Practices",
(in collaboration with Walter Lübeck) ISBN 3-89385-391-X is a book on
the Western Reiki practice. In it you will find a large variety of useful
Reiki- techniques for Reiki one, two and Reiki three practitioners. "The
Hayashi Reiki Manual" ( in collaboration with Tadao Yamaguchi) ISBN 0-914955-75-6
deals with Dr. Hayashi's life and work. In it you will find lovely pictures
of Dr. Hayashi and Dr. Usui as well as a first hand account of how he
used to teach as told by Chiyoko Yamaguchi, Tadao's mother. Besides that
the book is spiced with a ton of useful practical info and instruction.
The latest Merlin's Magic CD, " Reiki, space of Peace
and Love" mentioned in the last newsletter has also been released in English
now. All three projects have been very well received by the German public
and I hope that you too will be enriched by them. Please let me know your
feedback by email...
