Reiki Dharma Newsletter Volume 11, October 7, 2003 Dear friends! Welcome to the eleventh ReikiDharma newsletter. The first leafs have fallen and the days are getting shorter. After a wonder-filled summer, nature is longing for the silent embrace of autumn. How graciously she holds us in her arms already... Today I am writing to you with some sad news. On August 19th my beloved teacher, Chiyoko Yamaguchi, passed away in Kyoto, Japan. I was hoping that many more of you would have the chance to meet her in person, but it was not meant to be. For me she was the personification of Reiki. She was just what you would expect from someone with 65 years of Reiki- Experience. She had tremendous energy, was kind, humble, witty, humorous- yet stern and open minded. Meeting and studying with her was the culmination of my work in Japan. Her legacy is described in her own words in my latest Reiki- Bookモ The Reiki Manual of Chujiro Hayashi, Lotus Press, ISBN 0-914955-75-6 and I am grateful that this project materialized just in time before her passing. The day she passed away I had a strange dream. I saw a dead body in a temple surrounded by chanting monks. The smell of incense and the rhythmic beat of the chanting intoxicated the traveling spirit. I felt that the dead person wanted to contact me, so I opened the house of my heart and then awoke, wondering what it all meant. In the morning, when I heard the news, I let my spirit travel to the other world to meet her. What luminosity! I felt her in the trees, the flowers and in the clouds. This, I felt, transcends life and death. The day after her departure I taught a master class to a couple of students. Everyone of us felt her presence in the room: we felt her touch and her love, her simplicity and single- pointedness. In her sacred memory I would like to share a few anecdotes with you today. The first time I met her I came to study Reiki One and Two with her.
We spent five days together, the same way Dr. Hayashi had taught his Reiki
classes. It was a great pleasure for me to learn from someone with such
a wealth of experience and I felt like a small boy. Even though I had
been teaching Western Reiki for years, I felt that I knew nothing. On one of the evenings of this meeting I gave her a treatment for her aching back. She was very happy with my hands and said that she felt some huge energy caressing her. I did not take that as a personal gratification, but as an acknowlegement for all of us who practice Reiki in the West. No matter where you learn Reiki, from what lineage or school, the energy is one and the same- pure uncontaminated light. In those five days I spend with her I, asked he what Reiki meant for her. She thought for a while and then answered" When I see someone at the bus stop who is obviously suffering, I want to help them." When asked about the meaning of the Reiki principles she answered: "Incorporate the first four into your lives 1- Don't be angry 2- Don't worry 3- Be grateful and 4- Work hard. After you have accomplished that, there is no inner work left to do. The only thing left to do is living the Fifth Reiki Principle: Be nice to your fellow men. And that means: Give them Reiki!" Two years ago Walter Lübeck and some of his friends met me in Kyoto for a Reiki Class with Mrs. Yamaguchi. As you can imagine, all of us had many questions burning in our hearts. She answered everything patiently and when yet another question popped up, she turned to me and said" You guys think too much..." On another occasion during this visit, Walter showed her how we clear a room in our Western Reiki- Tradition. In Japan Reiki is traditionally used for healing only and it has not evolved in other areas of life. Walter centered himself for a moment and then proceeded to draw the power symbol into each of the corners of the room. When he was done, Mrs. Yamaguchi had a very surprised look on her face, got up almost at a running start and opened all the windows of the room, sayingモ Ahhh, ohhh, too much energy, must open the windows...モ The last time we met in the summer of 2002 for my Assistant Teacher training. She taught me the original attunement process (Reiju) used by Dr. Hayashi and we practiced it for a couple of days. On the last evening I asked her if she would like me to give her a Western Reiki- attunement. She agreed readily and I gave her a Western Reiki- Master attunement. Afterwards, she was deeply moved and impressed by the intensity of our Western attunement style Again I did not take this as a compliment of my "personal voltage", but I took it for all of us in the West with gratefulness... Just for today... Chiyoko Yamaguchi's son, Tadao-San, will continue the work in her spirit. Some time in 2004 he will come to Germany to conduct classes at my home in Düsseldorf. Those of you who are interested in learning the traditional Hayashi Reiki way, please let me know by email at Arjava@ReikiDharma.com or by phone at +49 211 5073 810. We will decide on the dates within the next two months. Book and CD News This year I spent a lot of time combing through the creative corners of my mind. The result of that search resulted in several new projects. The first will be a book on " Happiness" to be launched tomorrow at the Frankfurt Book Fair. This book is my personal account of 43 years of happiness, its obstacles, its mountain- peaks and valleys. For now it is only available in German under the title "Glücklichsein" Windpferd Verlag, ISBN 3-89385-426-6. Hopefully an English edition will follow shortly. My second project for this year is a CD with guided Reiki- Meditations that was recorded in collaboration with Merlinユs Magic. Again- this is available in German only under the title "Reiki- Meditationen im Licht, Windpferd Verlag, ISBN 3-89385-995-0 . The third project is a collection of texts for the soul to be published in the spring of 2004. More info about this book will follow in the next newsletter. Thank you for listening to me one more time. I wish you all the best on your path, trusting that it will open the sacred chamber of your heart, with love and a wave of bliss, your friend, Copyright © 2003 by Frank Arjava Petter
